Following Easter we will study the book of Acts using a video series by Randy Frazze called 40 Days Through the Book of Acts – The Revolution of Faith.

The book of Acts is a joyful celebration of how God’s revolutionary message was unstoppable and contagious. In it we discover that the Church is more dynamic than we dream, grace is the secret sauce of God’s revolution, and God’s way is not my way! Throughout this study you will hear a consistent invitation to join the revolution of faith and love that Jesus started two millennia ago. This will be a good study to see how the disciples carried on after Christ’s ascension

This 6-week series from April 27th through June 1st will be a good study to see how the disciples carried on following Easter and Christ’s ascension. I hope you will join us.

We’ll be following Max Lucado as he leads us in a Lenten series, He Chose the Nails.” He will help us:

  • Experience Lent as a time not to just give up something, but to prepare to receive good gifts from God.
  • Take comfort that Jesus understands everything you face in this life.
  • Receive the grace of Christ’s work for us and cooperate with God’s work in us to make us more like him.
  • Stand firm in the promise that you are forgiven, and you are welcome in God’s presence, no matter what you’ve done.

12/22: This Sunday we will share our Christmas Traditions.

12/29: No Adult Education Class

01/5: The class, led by Mike Kuhn, based on the book Delighting in the Trinity will resume.

On November 3rd, the adult education class will start a 3-part series called “The Story of Heaven.”  Max Lucado and Randy Frazee will give a hope-filled picture of what the kingdom of God will be like, from the book of Revelation.

November 24th, there will be no Adult Education since CPC will be busy creating Thanksgiving baskets alongside Mosaic Church.

Beginning September 29th, the Discipleship Committee is offering a video-based study of the book of Philippians taught by Pastor Mark Batterson. “Philippians, Embracing Joy” is part of the “40 Days Through the Book” series. The heartbeat of Philippians is for believers to have a Jesus-centered vision of life: a radical vision that, when seen fully, enables us to embrace joy no matter the circumstances.

Spend the next 6 weeks with us in the chapel at 9a each Sunday as we watch a video and then discuss it. We believe you will be blessed by it and we will all be blessed by your attendance.

Summer Read 2024

What if our congregation all joined Jesus on his mission to bring grace, love and redemption to those in our neighborhood? Does that excite you? Jesus is up to something and has invited us to join him.

Our summer read is Joining Jesus on His Mission, How to be Everyday Missionary by Greg Finke. The author takes the fear and angst out of being an everyday missionary as he outlines many ways we can be a part of Jesus’s loving mission as we just live out our lives. No need to be a biblical scholar, no need to know all the answers to possible questions, just a desire to enjoy and share life with those we are already connecting with.

The author, Greg Finke, has generously given us a 30% discount on the books so we can sell them at $12/each instead of the usual $16.00. The books are available in the foyer and payment either by cash or check can be put into the lock box. We will host zoom discussions on Wednesday evenings; July 17, 31, Aug 14, Aug 28 and Sept 4 at 7:00.

This has the possibility of changing everything. Let’s enthusiastically dig in and get and trained to serve our neighborhood as we read this simple but helpful book together.

August 11 – September 22: The adult education class will study Psalm 23

“God is inviting us to a table—with the king. Whatever the circumstances, whether it’s persecution or difficulty or a cancer ward or a diagnosis or family strife, God says, “I’m going to prepare a table for you right in the middle of whatever it is.” And here’s the beautiful thing about it, it’s a table for two. Our Good Shepherd invites us to linger at this table and find nourishment, rest, and deep intimacy with the King of the Universe. It’s time to win the battle for your mind.”

Adult Education Classes ~ June 9th through July 14th
“40 Days through Colossians” by Jay Y. Kim

9a in the Chapel & on Zoom

Starting June 9th we will have a 6-week video-led class on the wonderful book of Colossians. This class takes place in the Chapel from 9-10a.  The teacher, Jim Kim is a great communicator as he shares timely truths in Paul’s letter to the Colossians. “Back in the first century the church was dealing with a massive challenge that has never gone away…the problem of division. Throughout history, and in every part of the world, people can be divided because of ethnicity, gender, social class, religion, and a long list of other things. The world might be divided over these things, but Christians should not be. The apostle Paul asserts in Colossians that when Jesus is at the center of our hearts, lives, homes, churches, and community life, believers can say with bold confidence, “We are one people,” even when we have diverse backgrounds and differing views.”

We invite you to come and be a part of this exciting 6-week class as we discuss and learn together.

Summer Book Read
& Fall Class

Following our successful all-congregational book study last summer, we are inviting everyone to read In Quest of the Rock: Peter’s Transformative Journey with Jesus.  Written by our “resident” author Mike Kuhn, we believe you will find this book to be heart-warming, challenging and inspirational.  As Mike writes, “Nowhere in Scripture or in history do we find a more true, beautiful and enduring shaping of the human soul than in Jesus’s relationship with Peter.” This book will encourage you and allow Jesus to more fully transform your life.

Use this book in small groups or individually (study guides are available to facilitators).  Your Discipleship team will be offering 3 Wednesday evening Zoom discussion sessions during the next two months. Pick up your copy ($15) in the foyer after church services or check out a copy from the library.  In Quest of the Rock is also available on Kindle.

Rule of Life

For those of you who attended Together Tuesday in March and heard Pastor Greg present the Rule of Life, you will be happy to know that the Discipleship Committee has heard your requests for more and will present this full curriculum as our next class which will start on April 16th at 9a in the Chapel.

This class invites you to create a guide for your spiritual life by designing your own unique Rule of Life articulating five practices: prayer, study, recreation, work and hospitality. Each practice will be led by a different presenter. Over the weeks, we will consider how to organize our spiritual lives around these practices.   Join us and let’s all get inspired to ignite a spirituality charged with “living the ordinary life extraordinarily well.”

“Grasping the Gospels”

You are warmly invited to our Sunday morning adult education class beginning at 9a on February 26th, the first Sunday in Lent, and running through Palm Sunday, April 2nd.  In this class retired Pastor Gordon Terpstra will lead us into deeper understanding of the four wonderful Gospels that begin the New Testament.  We will learn how each of the books is literarily constructed in such a way that Jesus is painted in four unique colors instead of one.  The course helps us to understand the fullness of the Gospels as they are compared.

In preparation for the class, participants are encouraged to read through all four Gospels during the month of February.  Attend, learn, and grow in grasping the wonder of how God orchestrated such a marvelous four-dimensional picture of His Son!
